the phryg

Brooklyn based power funk outfit The Phryg (pronounced like reFRIDGErator) is led by Bryan Walters and Collin Patierno.

The two met while studying classical music in college and bonded over their love for NYC’s ever evolving live music scene. After clocking in hundreds of live shows and incessant jamming in their living room, the friends formed a unique musical connection. Their musical tastes and influences were so wide-ranging that it lead them to form a group unbound to one genre and fluid enough to jump between and fuse styles. Imagine a thick funk foundation layered with prog rock, smattered with some jazz fusion and a dusting of stoner metal. This two man songwriting team produce a unique and formidable sound as heard on their debut EP Midnight Snack, self-titled sophomore LP The Phryg and 2021 release Ways of Nowhere. Virtuosic solos and exploratory jams are the hallmarks of their live show and the band has toured the east coast extensively. The Phryg has appeared at Brooklyn Bowl (NY), The Knitting Factory (NY), The 8x10 (MD) and has performed official after-parties for Umphrey's Mcgee and Vida Blue.

The Phryg is preparing to release their heaviest and most exploratory material yet on the new EP Don’t Be Scared coming Spring 2023. The new release showcases two through-composed prog rock tone poems, one by Walters and one by Patierno. The band is comprised of Bryan Walters (bass, vocals and trumpet), Collin Patierno (guitar and vocals), Horace McNeil (drums) and Chris Pleitz (keyboards).
